A Happy New Year for Landlords?

In 2006, the residential letting market saw the implementation of new legislation which has kept landlords very busy in getting to grips with the some of the biggest changes which have been seen since assured shorthold tenancies were introduced in 1989 (for further details on  these changes, please see our news on The Housing Act 2004).

However, apart from the implementation of the mandatory Tenancy Deposit Scheme, which has been delayed until April 2007, it looks like 2007 could be free of new legislation for landlords of residential property.

Under the Tenancy Deposit Scheme landlords will need to decide whether to comply with the Act through insured schemes or to use the government appointed custodial scheme.

If you are a landlord of residential premises and wish to know more about what you could and what you should be doing, please contact one of our Landlord & Tenant specialists for further details.
